なお、8月（このブログを書いた月）の満月はチョウザメ月（Sturgeon Moon）と呼ばれるそうです。

満月ってなに？
まず、満月についておさらいしましょう。
満月は、夜空にお月様がまんまるく輝くときのことをいいます。
このとき、地球、月、太陽がまっすぐに並んでいて、太陽の光が月にたっぷり当たって、月がまるで大きな白いボールのように見えます。
月の引力ってなに？
次に「引力」について考えてみましょう。
引力というのは、物と物が引き合う力のことです。
たとえば、地球の引力のおかげで、私たちは地面にしっかり立つことができます。
実は月にも引力があって、その力が地球にも影響を与えているんです。
満月の引力と海
さて、ここが一番面白いところ！
海の水も、月の引力の影響を受けます。
満月のときには、月の引力が特に強くなって、海の水を引き寄せます。
その結果、海の水が普段より高くなることがあります。
これを「満潮」といいます。
逆に、月が見えないときは引力が少し弱くなり、海の水は低くなります。
これを「干潮」といいます。
お月様が海を動かしている！
つまり、月はただ空に浮かんでいるだけじゃなく、実際に地球上のものを動かす力を持っているんですね！
満月の夜に海に行くと、いつもよりも大きな波を見られるかもしれません。
