バーチャル万博は、EXPO2025大阪万博の会期にあわせて、半年で終わり。
リアル万博にも言えることなんですが、たったの半年で終了というのはもったいな過ぎます。
わかりやすく例えると、
苦労して永遠に語り継がれるような傑作映画を作ったのに、たった1週間だけ上映して永久にフィルムを封印するようなものです。
本当にもったいないですよね！！
バーチャル万博は予想以上の完成度の高さ、そして未来につながる無限大の可能性を秘めているんです！
しかし、バーチャル万博が気になりつつも、リアルが忙し過ぎたりして、今まで楽しめなかった人も多くいます。
万博の会期終了に合わせてのバーチャル万博終了は、時期尚早としか言えません！
というわけでこのブログ記事は、万博（と英語）を愛するあなたに向けて全力でお届けします。
消えゆく夢洲、残すべき未来
2025年10月13日23時。「EXPO 2025 バーチャル万博 ～空飛ぶ夢洲～」のサーバーが終了。大阪・関西万博の閉幕（号泣）に伴い、あのバーチャル空間は二度とアクセスできない記憶になる。
そう言われています。
でも、ちょっと待ってください。
本当にこれでいいのでしょうか?
バーチャル万博が半年で終わるというのは、あまりにもったいないことです！
Perhaps it is foolish to become so attached to something that exists only in digital space. Yet when I learned the Virtual EXPO would close on October 13th, I felt a curious sadness.
The flying Yumeshima—surely it need not vanish simply because the physical exhibition has ended? There must be ways to preserve it.
なぜバーチャル空間まで終わらせる必要があるのか
まず大前提として、万博の開催期間中は毎日星の数ほどのイベントがあります。
そちらを楽しみながらバーチャル万博までプレイするというのは、身一つで1日24時間という状態ではほぼ不可能です。
このブログ執筆時点で、リアルの万博が終わるというのは、非常に残念ながら決定していると言われていました（号泣）。
もともと半年間の開催という決まり事がある上に、会場の撤去、設備の返却、土地の整備などなど。
物理的な制約もある以上、期間限定というのは避けられないのかもしれません。
でも、バーチャルは違います。
サーバーさえ動かしておけば、世界中の人が時差を気にせず、交通費をかけず、いつでも「空飛ぶ夢洲」というプラットフォームを訪れることができます。
なのに、なぜリアルと一緒に消してしまうのでしょうか？
公式の説明では「リアル万博との連動性」「運営コスト」「契約上の制限」「期間限定の特別感」といった理由が挙げられています。
確かに理解できる部分もあります。
でも、これらは本当に「終了するしかない」理由なのでしょうか。
Why Must the Virtual Space Be Terminated as Well?
The closure of the physical exposition is, naturally, inevitable. Dismantling the venue, returning equipment, restoring the land to its original state—given such physical constraints, a finite duration is unavoidable.
Yet the virtual realm operates under different principles.
Provided the servers remain operational, individuals across the globe might visit Yumeshima at their convenience, unencumbered by time differences or travel expenses. Why, then, must it be extinguished alongside its physical counterpart?
The official explanation cites “synchronisation with the physical event,” “operational costs,” “contractual limitations,” and “the allure of temporal exclusivity.” Whilst these considerations are not without merit, one might reasonably question whether they truly constitute insurmountable grounds for termination.
バーチャル万博が終わってはいけない理由
文化遺産としての価値
万博は、その時代の技術と思想を結晶化した文化遺産です。
1970年の大阪万博の太陽の塔が今も残っているように、2025年の万博も何らかの形で後世に残すべきではないでしょうか。
（もちろん、ミャクミャクも含めて、いくつかのコンテンツは移設・保存などして後世に残るというニュースはありますが）
バーチャル空間なら、物理的な劣化なしに、当時の体験をそのまま保存できます！
Value as Cultural Heritage
World expositions represent the crystallisation of the technology and philosophy of their era.
Just as the Tower of the Sun from the 1970 Osaka Exposition endures to this day, ought not the 2025 exposition be preserved in some form for posterity?
Virtual spaces offer the singular advantage of safeguarding such experiences without physical deterioration.
行けなかった人たちへの配慮
仕事、健康、経済的理由、遠方に住んでいるなど、様々な事情でリアル万博に行けなかった人は多くいます。
異常気象の猛暑で行けなかった人たちも……
バーチャル万博はそういった人たちの「セカンドチャンス」だったはずです。
それを半年で終わらせてしまうのは、せっかくの未来への可能性を摘み取ることにならないでしょうか。
またバーチャル万博が継続されれば、リアルで忙しかった人も、今後いつでもバーチャルで万博を楽しめるようになります！
リアルで長時間、会場内外で並び続けた人も、バーチャルなら待ち時間ゼロで、自分のペースでゆっくりと展示や雰囲気を味わうことができます。
時間と空間の制約から解放された、新しい万博体験の形がそこにはあるのです。
Consideration for Those Unable to Attend
Numerous individuals were unable to visit the physical exposition owing to professional commitments, health concerns, financial constraints, or geographical distance. The virtual exposition was intended to serve as a second opportunity for such persons. To terminate it after a mere six months would seem to curtail its promise prematurely.
Those whose schedules precluded physical attendance might yet explore the exposition virtually at their leisure. Those who endured extensive queuing at the physical venue might appreciate the virtual experience, unburdened by waiting times and affording contemplation at one’s own pace. Here exists a novel form of exposition experience, liberated from temporal and spatial constraints.
教育資源としての可能性
未来の子どもたちが、社会科や総合学習で「2025年の万博」を学ぶとき、テキストや写真だけでなく、実際にバーチャル空間を歩き回れたらどうでしょう。
それは生きた教材になります。
歴史を「体験」として伝えられる貴重な機会を、私たちは捨ててしまっていいのでしょうか。
Potential as an Educational Resource
When future generations study the 2025 exposition in their social studies lessons, might they not benefit from navigating the virtual space itself, rather than merely consulting texts and photographs?
Such an approach would constitute a living pedagogical tool.
Should we truly relinquish this rare opportunity to convey history as lived experience?
国際交流の継続的なプラットフォーム
万博は各国のパビリオンが集まる、貴重な国際交流の場です。
これをバーチャル空間で常設化すれば、恒久的な国際文化交流センターになります。
言語の壁を越えた対話、異文化理解の促進。
そんな理想をバーチャル空間なら容易に実現できます。
A Continuing Platform for International Exchange
World expositions serve as invaluable forums for international dialogue, where pavilions from across the globe converge. Were this rendered permanent in virtual form, it might function as an enduring centre for cross-cultural exchange. The facilitation of dialogue transcending linguistic barriers, the advancement of intercultural understanding—such ideals become attainable within virtual spaces.
テクノロジーの実験場としての意義
メタバース、VR、AIガイド。
万博には最新技術が詰まっていました。
これを終わらせるのではなく、継続的に進化させる実験場として残せば、日本の技術力を世界に示し続けることができます。
Significance as a Technological Laboratory
The metaverse, virtual reality, artificial intelligence guidance—the Virtual EXPO embodied the latest technological advances. Rather than terminating it, preserving it as an evolving experimental space would enable Japan to demonstrate its technological prowess on the world stage in perpetuity.
バーチャル万博を半永久的に楽しむための提案
では、どうすればバーチャル万博を残せるのでしょうか。
具体的なアイデアを考えてみました。
アーカイブモードでの保存
すべての機能を維持する必要はありません。
リアルタイムイベントやライブ配信は終了しても、「歩いて見て回れる空間」としてアーカイブ化することができます。
運営コストを大幅に削減しながら、文化遺産として保存できます。
実現方法:
- イベント機能やチャット機能を停止し、閲覧専用モードに変更
- サーバー負荷を最小限に抑えた軽量版として再構築
- 国立国会図書館や文化庁などとの連携で、公的アーカイブとして保管
オープンソース化とコミュニティ運営
バーチャル万博のデータとプラットフォームをオープンソース化し、有志のコミュニティに運営を委ねることができます。
ボランティアベースで維持費を分担すれば、公式が手を引いた後も存続できます。
実現方法:
- 3Dモデルやアプリケーションコードをオープンソースライセンスで公開

私たちができること
運営さんが公式に終了すると言っているのだから仕方ない、と諦める必要はありません。
声を上げ、行動すれば、流れはきっと変えられます。

その未来は、2025年10月13日で終わるのではなく、そこから始まるべきではないでしょうか！
バーチャル万博は、単なる「リアル万博の補完」ではありません。
時間と空間を超えて、世代を超えて、人々をつなぐ新しい文化基盤になり得ます。
技術的にも、経済的にも、社会的にも、残す方法は必ずある。
必要なのは、「残す価値がある」という共通認識と、それを実現しようとする意志だけです。
10月13日の終了日まで、残された時間は少なくなっています。
でも、まだ遅くありません。
空飛ぶ夢洲を、永遠のバーチャル夢洲にしましょう。
